We focus on
- design and validation of national curricular frameworks (core objectives, attainment levels, examination programmes, curricular strands)
- analysis, design, and evaluation of examplary curriculum specifications at school and classroom level
Also, we increasingly aim at
- knowledge development (through research)
- professional development in the field of curriculum (through publications, training and advice)
A main curricular challenge for SLO is the strengthening of (both longitudinal and horizontal) cohesion of educational content.
Besides organising our work in school types (special, primary, secondary, and vocational education) and subject domains, we seek a coherent programming along six relevant curricular themes:
- curricular strands (longitudinal)
- coherence across the curriculum (horizontal)
- diversity in the curriculum
- educational materials
- curricular professional development
- subject renewal.
Curriculum in development
The title refers to both the dynamic discussions that continuously take place across a wide range of curricular issues and the evolutionary thinking about concepts en approaches in curriculum development. Changes in society constantly demand new knowledge and skills and require the continuous development of our educational system.
The book focuses on question like: How do processes of curriculum development evolve? What actually is a curriculum? And how to ensure the quality of curricular products?
What started as an endeavour to summarize our knowledge base about curriculum development for our colleagues at SLO, may also provide teachers, educators, policy makers and other parties involved in educational development with a clear and concise introduction into the basic notions on curriculum development.
